OUR STORY

In May 2009, our lives were changed forever when Captain Derek Vehling suffered a traumatic spinal cord injury, including a broken back and neck, and ultimately, would never return to active duty.

After 11 years of transitioning our lives and supporting Derek's recovery, it is time to give back to the community that provided endless support and love to our family.

The Vehling Family is anxious to connect the children of fallen and disabled firefighters to support their continued network with the fire family.

The Fire Family Ladder Program was named to highlight this on-going connection, where we hope to build a LADDER and bridge the gap for families.
